(As an artist): "I can CREATE it..."
I'm a realist, and primarily a still life artist. I am also fascinated by reflective surfaces like glass, metal and mirror, and the effects of what I call "captive" water. To me it is a joy to re-create those surfaces and effects, because I can.

(As an instructor): "I can COMMUNICATE it..."
I know how to do it, and can teach YOU how to do it. I not only enjoy teaching, I'm good at it.

(As an author): "I can SHARE it..."
I like being able to pass on my knowledge and expertise to you. I'm happy to share with you my techniques, shortcuts, hints and methods. And, as an author, I'm able to reach a wider audience.

Artist

Janie's career as an artist began when she was in the seventh grade and realized she could "draw it the way it looked." After receiving a degree from the Ohio Sate University in Art Education, she began her teaching career. Several years later, she received the prestigious Martha Holden Jennings Award for excellence in teaching.

In 1991, she became a professional artist. Since that time, Janie has become internationally known for her work and awards.

Author

Eager to share her knowledge and expertise with a wider group of interested students and artists, Janie became an author:

  • Colored Pencil Explorations, both books published by North Light.
Instructor

Janie appears in two videos by Creative Catalyst Productions:
  • The Colored Pencil: Getting Started Right
  • The Art of Colored Pencil: the Light Touch
